Profile:
Hugo N. Gerstl brings over 55 years of extensive legal experience to Bay Legal. After earning his Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law in 1965, he was admitted to the California Bar in 1966. Throughout his distinguished career, Hugo has served clients primarily in the Monterey Bay area while regularly working in the South Bay and Santa Clara County. His legal career began in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a Judge Advocate at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona and later in Ankara, Turkey.
Hugo’s legal expertise spans litigation, estate planning, family law, and business law, offering a broad range of services to clients. In addition to his law career, he has achieved success as a novelist, publishing 16 novels, many of which have gained international recognition and been translated into multiple languages.

Author and Novelist:
Although Hugo began writing in 1989, his career as a novelist truly blossomed in 2005 with his partnership with Dekel Publishing House. Since then, he has published 16 novels, including Scribe, which reached #2 on the Portuguese bestseller list, and other successful titles such as Against All Odds, Assassin, Amazing Grace, and The Wrecking Crew. His works have been translated into Portuguese, Czech, Turkish, German, and Hebrew. In 2018, Hugo founded his own publishing company, Pangaea Publishing Group.
Hugo’s other creative pursuits include producing and arranging over 50 commercially released pop and rock ‘n’ roll records in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including three hit records: “Do Your Thing,” “Love Land,” and “Express Yourself.”
Personal Reflection:
Hugo has experienced a vibrant and multifaceted life beyond the courtroom, having lived in various parts of the world, acted in and directed plays, flown private planes, and traveled extensively with his wife, Lorraine. Together, they have raised five children and are proud grandparents to six. Hugo describes himself as the happiest and luckiest man in the world, primarily due to his loving marriage to Lorraine, who has made a lasting impact as an educator.
